I Can’t Believe that the year has gone by so fast but here we are!!
Christmas is upon us and although I am not a holiday person I wish all of you a wonderful Christmas!!
As a kid holidays were not the best when you lived with two alcoholics and drug addicts who fought all the time but we always had a tree (when we could afford it) and when we couldn’t we understood why. We didn’t always have a good meal either (I remember one Christmas all we had to eat was bologna sandwiches) but we were always together.
However those moments has made holidays for me a very BLEH time. We didn’t do the big family gatherings like I see my friends do with theirs and it kind of annoys me. I can’t imagine spending every holiday with my family members – those holidays would be agonizing.
When I had my son, I made sure to give him a good Christmas with a big tree and lots of ornaments. I loved decorating the tree and wrapping his gifts but now that he is 13, the Christmas spirit is no longer within me and I hate the process of preparing for Christmas. We just put our mini tree up a few days ago and it always comes down on Christmas day after he has opened his presents. (Yes, I know that’s quick but I can’t stand the mess). I do enjoy some eggnog and whisky and the channel that shows nothing but a close up of a fire place with logs burning, it’s such a calm channel.
Even though I am not a Christmasy person (I even HATE Christmas music) I wish all of you a WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS!! If you are the Christmasy type then may you have all the joy in the world. If you are alone, I hope that this would be your last year alone for the holidays. If you are ill and can’t enjoy the day like you’d like to, I wish that you will regain your health and live each day of 2016 like it’s your Christmas every day.
Speaking of 2016. . . .
HOLY Cowabunga it’s here already! I swear it was just January 2015 a few days ago! So much has happened this year. I look forward to what 2016 has in store for me.
I wish all of you the best year ahead and hope to remain a virtual presence with you all.
Be safe if you celebrate the new year like it’s 1999.
-See you all next year!!
This will be a short review. I purchased a colour pop mini double sided pencil set for $20 yet I was hesitant because the first pencil and matching liner I purchased from them earlier this year was horrible, well the pencil was and the lippie was darker than I had expected so anyways I wanted to give them a go again and here we are. I didn’t read that they were mini until after I had purchased them but eh you get a variety for the buck so it wasn’t so bad. As you can see compared to a pen, they are small.
I haven’t worn all of them yet and the two colors I did wear were ok.
Please ignore my crappy photo but you see the flash and no flash. I do not like the bound on me because it was too pale yet with a darker liner (not the one with it) It will look okay.
I wore the bossy to work and the color stayed on pretty well throughout the day as you can see in another crappy photo below.
The formula for these are matte to shiny. My only problem with these are the amount of product you get in each tube as you can see below.
They are twisted up to their max. I get that they are mini and for $20 you get to sample a few colors and formulas so that is ok but you could get two full sized colors with matching pencils for the same price and to me that would have been better yet as a sampler set it’s cool.
I like the lippie pencils, one because the price is nice, each lippie stick and pencil are $5 each and shipping is $5 so overall that’s not bad for matching lippie and sticks. I haven’t tried their liquid lippies yet and after seeing Temptalia’s review, I don’t plan on it.
I had been wanting to try this lipstick for a while since I seen it on Sephora’s website so when I finally saw it in store in this little gift set with the matches I grabbed it for $23.00
I’ll make this short and sweet. . .
Different Shape helps to apply the lipstick better – I’d like all my lipsticks to come shaped like this
The packaging is a nice cool vintage gold color which goes well with the theme the creator wanted to set for this line.
I have not used the match book sticks yet and don’t know if I will, they seem kind of odd but it’s a cool idea and I’m keeping them for a ‘just-in-case’ kind of day.
The wear isn’t long lasting nor drying nor moisturizing. It’s kind of Maybelline with the wear but a bit higher on the scale.
The color is great! It took me ages to decide on a color which is why I hadn’t brought it then I saw the set and said, “What the hell, get this one”
It’s a very nice red-orange.
It’s worth trying out for the shape of the lipstick, the packaging and the colors are cool but I wouldn’t buy another knowing how little lasting power they have.
BH Cosmetics came out with a liquid lipstick so I snatched one up. I don’t like buying all colors I like until I’ve tried out the formula!
Lightweight – it’s like a feather. Very nice. Not thick at all. When putting it on it felt thin and I could see through it but once it dried the full color came through.
As you can see with the flash its kind of light but very slightly. (don’t mind my dry ass skin chile!)
$6.50 ON SALE for the debut but the real cost is $10 now I’m not happy about spending ten when my Kat Von D is $21 but this is a great dupe for Kat so budget wise it’s ok unless you don’t get $35 worth of stuff for free shipping (or is it $50) then you’ll have to pay the standard $3.95 so that becomes $13.95 when $7 more you can get Kat or $6 more for a Stila. So it’s your battle to choose from but overall not bad on the price.
We all know once matte dries it can go one of many ways. This one as I mentioned dried fast with a bit of that tight pulling feeling but not like LA Splash Lip Couture tight!! I’ve smiled and opened my mouth wide which i like to do to get the feel of the product being stretched and just like Kat Von D… Stays fabulous!!
Plus there is no scent!! If I had to pick a CON it would be that the color online is far brighter than actual. But that’s it!!
I will order a few more colors!
This is just a post to show what the glosses look like on and you can check out the longer review a few posts back!
As you can see the Sunset Strip is barely shown on me and it has glitter, not my favorite thing in a lip gloss. This will be one I give to a friend the next time she comes over but the other ones are keepers!
LAST YEAR, I missed picking up the Give Me More Lip set because I didn’t fancy it, there was something about it that I just didn’t want but THIS YEAR I picked it up and LOVE IT!
This set has a nice variety of colors and products to try if you have been wanting to try a brand or two out. I was happy to be able to try YSL, Ciate, Urban Decay, and Laura Mercier. This set is $59 at Sephora and when you look at the price of the full sized lipsticks, you are getting a good value. The Nars is $32, Urban Decay $22, Ciate $19, and Smashbox $20 so right there you are getting a good value for a set that includes 4 full sized lipsticks!
Now let’s get to the product!
Laura Mercier – I have wanted to try this brand for a while but something has always swayed me away. This color is Milky Way and although with the flash in this pic it looks a bit bright but it’s actually a very subdued and almost sheer taupe that’s gorgeous and would look with or without a liner.
I’m a Buxom fan! I don’t care for the tingle on the lips much but my favorite color is Dolly. These are very sheer but the subtle color comes through just right when you want a relaxed natural look with just a tinch of sparkle!
I fancy buxom lip glosses. I could care less for the tingle feeling but these are nice on those natural makeup days when you want just a sparkle and honestly the travel sizes are perfect. I don’t always like to carry around big tubes of lip gloss so half sizes are way better!
This Berry Blast is a nice shade of sheer berry. My favorite Buxom is the color Dolly, it’s just the perfect color of gloss period! They are not super sticky nor too thick. The application is smooth and easy.
These two are the most pointless of the bunch! I thought the Clinique stick would have some color because in the tube it looks pink but it’s clear on me however I seen a lighter skin swatch and it showed some color. I have a chubby Clinique pencil in a bright fuchsia that shows perfect on me so I was disappointed by this one. The Tarte is clear, the formula is nice and soft and it adds a pretty shine as you can see but I wish they would have put a color one in instead of clear yet it’s moisturizing.
I am not the biggest Sugar fan especially in these tiny sizes because they melt and break quite easily.
The formula is very nice and smooth. Moisturizing. I cannot understand for the life of me why someone would pay so much for this product, the full size is $22.50 and although it feels nice, my baby lips works just the same for me. I enjoy the travel sizes but can’t see myself ever buying a full size.
Next Up is Too Faced Melted in Peony.
I own a full size of this in the darker pink color which I think may actually be Berry Red. These have a felt tip applicator which some have said sucks but I really like the way this tip spreads the product on the lips. In the time that I have my dark pink color (9 months), I have had to clean the applicator once and I did so by taking the applicator off and running hot water through it to remove any clogged openings and it works fine. The formula is very opaque. I put full coverage on in this pic to show you how opaque it is but even when wearing my pink color I only put on one lip then blot the two together. This is long lasting but not fully transfer proof yet not super messy or creamy. I will wear this color with a liner or even mix it with the color I already own for a cute ombre effect!
I had no idea what to expect with this product and it’s just alright. Would I pay $23.50 for a full size which looks more like a taller travel size? NO. It’s not too thick and as you can see not too pigmented either but I was surprised by the color that I got considering an arm swatch didn’t look so good. Overall the product itself isn’t bad but I can’t imagine other colors having pigment with such a sheer formula.
I was excited for this one because I really wanted to try this brand (I’m wearing this today (10/11/15) at work and it’s holding it pretty well these 3 hours in through my bowl of oatmeal and cup of coffee). This formula is SOOOO CREAMY which is also it’s con though. You have to have a bit of finesse when applying this so it doesn’t smear everywhere. It’s very rich and opaque. I will definitely be purchasing a full size now that I know how great this formula is. So far this is a long wearing, non drying formula that I like. There is kind of scent that smells like perfume but it’s subtle and fancy.
Next is BiTE Beauty
I am a fan of Bite and own quite a few of the double sided $14 lipsticks and a full sized in Palamino. This color was surprisingly cute and neutral. I have a Smashbox lipstick in my favorite color of cognac which is way lighter compared to this cognac so that was interesting to see the different cognacs. There is no liner needed for this cutie. She’s very pigmented and is a great fall color. BiTE products are all so smooth on application and although they are very creamy, they are not messy and actually have great staying power.
Who doesn’t Love a KAT VON D lippie?
I went looking for this color a long time ago and it was sold out every where so instead I purchased the color Motorhead which is a more burgundy dark color than this is although they are quite similar so I was excited to see this color in the pack. It’s a perfect year round color if you’re like me who wears dark lips whenever the mood strikes regardless of the season.
NEXT UP is NARS . . . .
I have a bone to pick with NARS! Why are their lipsticks so small? For $30+ I’d expect a little more product and that is something that has kept me from buying the lipstick because I do not feel you get enough of the product compared to other, cheaper, and sometimes better lipstick. But I’ll talk about that in a second. . . in this set was
This color is sexy! I am very impressed with NARS formula on this one (a previous one I received as a gift was sheer so I returned it and got two lipsticks of a different brand). It’s soft, smooth, moisturizing and as you see it has a nice pigment. Nothing negative about this product except the price for a full size which is more like a half size to me.
For example, I compared a few other lipstick brands to this one in size:
As you can see, Smashbox is the biggest and cost $20 per tube, next is NARS coming in next at $30 then Mac which has been used so it would be about the size of Smashbox and then Bite which is actually about the size as NARS but I am ok buying that because it’s about $6 cheaper. I just wish these companies would stop going overboard with these prices on lipsticks because we all know that cost price and the sale price are dramatically <said with a serious eye roll> different!! But oh well right. . .we are slaves to beauty. . .on to the next one. . .
Smashbox is one of my favorite brands. I love the variety of colors they have , the pigments and even the sleek black square tube (Like NARS). This color is a bit bright on me without a liner but I have a nice magenta liner that would give this bad boy some fierceness! It’s matte so it’s a bit drying but nothing Lorac like <insert lip purse and eye roll *shade>
Next Up is URBAN DECAY . . .
This photo makes the lipstick look more bold than it is, it was really subdued on me and as a first time user of this brand of lipstick it was very smooth, like the YSL smooth so almost messy but not quite. Great pigment and coverage. I wore this work the day before yesterday and didn’t need a liner but wore one anyway and this was just a great product all day. Total moisturizing on the lips all day. I can see myself buying more of these as they felt more like a glorified gloss but I didn’t mind that.
And Last but not least the beauty I am wearing today (10/13/15). . . . CIATE
This is a BRIGHT orange, really bright, super bright but I like it!! This is my first time trying Ciate and this formula is thick on application – not sticky think but a lot comes out on the applicator thick so a little goes a really looooooong way!
It’s long wearing, a bit drying, not shiny, and scent free. I had to exfoliate my lips good this morning and reapply because my first try was creasy and flakey on my morning lips. I can see myself picking up more colors because I love bright and bold lip wear however I can see this being too bright for some.
Today I applied a sienna lip liner then applied to the inner area of my bottom lip then blotted/rubbed lips together to achieve a nice subtle but bold orange.
That’s all the product folks – whew!! A lot to take in now the following photos are swatches!
I didn’t own any Clinique lipsticks wait that’s a lie, I do have a hot pink chubby lip pencil that I like very much but that’s all I owned until picking this up yesterday. Seeing the design on these tubes made this trip to the mall worth it especially since you got a free gift too!
I couldn’t pass up such a deal and a chance to get some Clinique lipsticks with adorable designs!
The lipstick was $25 for the 5 piece set which is under the $27 minimum purchase for the gift so I picked up a bottom lash mascara for $10.50 bringing my total too $38 and some change. Not bad!
What I love about this is that the makeup bag is big enough to fit a blush inside so to just toss one in with every thing else and you’ve got an entire day to night look for traveling! Gotta love when they make it easy!
So Let’s dissect the product shall we . . . .
The Lip Stick Set –
I didn’t do swatches of each one last night but this weekend is the weekend for swatches these and the Anastasia’s lip glosses!!
I was a little upset that the free gift colors for the lipsticks were either crimson or beauty which are in this set but I figured oh well, what’s the harm in having two cute nudes – backups never hurt nobody!
I am wearing plum today and I absolutely love the color and the feel of the matte is indeed very soft but long lasting.
I adore the tubes but the colors are very nice and well worth it – this is an $80 value so it’s an incredible STEAL! *even though we know they hike the prices up on cosmetics anyway meaning that this lipsticks cost price is probably $8 anyway!
The Free gift is nothing new if you know about Clinique and their deals but it’s always a pleasure to get something free.
Who doesn’t love a good makeup remover? The moisturizer has a smell I am not too fond of, kind of smells like Blue Magic hair grease (you remember blue magic??!!) So I don’t find that I will be using that often but it will stay in my makeup bag because I love a small lotion in my makeup bag. The Clinique-repair serum is not oily which I expected it to be. It actually absorbs into the skin and it is stated to: address uneven skin tones, lines, and wrinkles, firms and adds radiance. We’ll see about that over time!
The eye shadow colors are: Ivory Bisque, Tarnished Gold from Starlight Starbright, Rainforest from Nightcap, and Olive in my MartiniI’m wearing the shadow, mascara, and plum lipstick today. The mascara is actually pretty darn nice and light weight. The shadow is pigmented enough on my dark skin. I created a semi-smoky eye with the green.
Overall this is a pretty good value to pick up and add to your collection! The quality is great, variety is great, and the designs are fabulous.
I love reading reviews, I will stand in a store and pull up reviews on a product I am thinking about getting to help me decide. I generally read negative reviews mostly because the good reviews all say the same things which is good but I look at the negative to see what unlikely problems people had with items and by that I am able to determine if it will be right for me considering that I already know the good.
I usually only like written reviews because I just don’t like watching videos of people doing anything – I strongly dislike music videos, reality TV, home movies, videos of peoples kids, cats, family etc., and could care less for commercials – so it’s mostly what I can read that interests me however there are some reviews that you may have to watch to get the full idea of the product and that’s ok. For example if I plan on buying new hair (weave) and I am not sure about a company I will watch multiple videos of people detailing the hair to get a good idea of the product but that’s rare but . . . .
When I go for cosmetic reviews, I only read them and I usually am not concerned with how long they take to get to the point because I am reading it, the words may look like a lot but really it’s on a few minutes to read it but when watching a video the length becomes a different story.
My biggest PET PEEVE is when they take forever to get to the product!
I am going to sound really bitchy with this BUT I do not care why you brought the product, I am assuming it’s because you liked it. I don’t want to hear about your issues with uploading videos today, I don’t care about anything other than the product so show me the product!
To click on a video that shows it’s 8:43 long and it’s the last minute that you decide to show the product really burns my biscuits. I always have the volume on mute and thankfully YouTube allows you to see what you are fast-forwarding too so that helps to weed out the BS before the product but people, come onnnn!
So below is a list of don’ts when doing your videos because I am an upstanding citizen who likes to help out when I see an issue that can have some corrective suggestions:
This list may not be for everyone, some people like long and drawn out videos but for those of us who just like to see the product this is what we’d suggest:
DO NOT have this long ass drawn out opening with photo montages of yourself and your makeup or cool skateboard tricks that takes up two full minutes with music – some people really just want a quick look at the product.
DO NOT give us a play-by-play of your day, unless it’s AFTER the product when we can turn it off.
DO NOT put the product in front of your hand unless the lighting is crappy otherwise it’s pointless yet if you do, we don’t need you to do it for a minute straight, we get the point.
DON’T open the product then hold it in your hand while you talk for another ten minutes on your random thoughts on the product that you haven’t tried yet.
DO NOT mispronounce the product, seriously learn how to say it if you brought it
DO NOT put the product on (as in cosmetics) then talk for an extra minute about nothing pertaining to the product.
DO NOT be long winded – if it can take a minute to say then dammit, say it!
DON’T need to see you unboxing a product – I have yet to understand why someone thinks someone would like to see them open up a product, it’s a package, it’s secured. Unless the packaging places a huge part of the review then sure but just to do it doesn’t make sense
DO NOT speak real low and sexy, it’s a review people – say it wit cha chest!
DON’T do slow-mo videos, you’re prolonging an already prolonged video for the purpose of using a cool feature that you don’t need. Especially in make-up, it’s lipstick, I don’t need to see you slowly put it on your lips – this isn’t seduction class folks!
I know I sound like a nag but sometimes it needs to be said and this may help to get your views and return views up high because no one wants to sit through fluff especially when they came for the product that’s like going to a magic show for 2 hours but you only get the last 15 minutes of show in magic! I will seriously go through about 5 videos until I find one that starts with talking about the product.
Some of us really don’t care about the other stuff and it’s ok to do short videos some times. If you don’t have nothing to say but “Hey I like this product” then say just that and let the product speak for itself.
Forgive me if I’ve ruffled your feathers but I bet the next time you go to upload a video this post will come into your mind.
You are welcome.
Sincerely Me and my Pet
I am loving the new holiday lip sets coming out and Anastasia has released an awesome set of her top selling lip glosses which I love!
If you haven’t tried her lip glosses yet I advise you do!! This set is great because it costs only $40 – yep you read that right, each of these go for $16 a piece so to get 8 FULL SIZED tubes for the price of two is amazeballs!!
The formula isn’t sticky
It actually lasts long (the glitter kinds not so long but long enough)
Can be layered over lipsticks
Clear tube to see product
Slightly scented but nothing too over the top or I couldn’t wear it
I haven’t swatched them all on my lips yet but I wanted to get these out for you to see the lovely colors and will update with lip swatches later this week!
These have great pigments for a lip gloss. This set has 5 glitter/sheer colors and 3 opaque (the last 3) The gold is such a fun gold on the lips. They all look good on me and I think with the variety of colors that they will look good on almost all skin tones.
I also love her liquid lipsticks – they are not as long lasting as I’d like but they are not drying so it’s a win/win!
This set is available at Macy’s for $40 or online at Macys.com (if you go into a Macy’s impulse store ask for the impulse section or they might say they don’t have it cause they just don’t know – I almost had a heart attack when she said “no”)
Let me know what you think!?
