ANASTASIA Beverly Hills Holiday Lip Gloss Set from MACY’S

I am loving the new holiday lip sets coming out and Anastasia has released an awesome set of her top selling lip glosses which I love!

wpid-wp-1443150725941.jpgIf you haven’t tried her lip glosses yet I advise you do!! This set is great because it costs only $40 – yep you read that right, each of these go for $16 a piece so to get 8 FULL SIZED tubes for the price of two is amazeballs!!

The formula isn’t sticky

It actually lasts long (the glitter kinds not so long but long enough)

Can be layered over lipsticks

Clear tube to see product

Slightly scented but nothing too over the top or I couldn’t wear it

wpid-wp-1443151151762.jpg

I haven’t swatched them all on my lips yet but I wanted to get these out for you to see the lovely colors and will update with lip swatches later this week!

These beauties have fabulous pigments!

These beauties have fabulous pigments!

These have great pigments for a lip gloss. This set has 5 glitter/sheer colors and 3 opaque (the last 3) The gold is such a fun gold on the lips. They all look good on me and I think with the variety of colors that they will look good on almost all skin tones.

I also love her liquid lipsticks – they are not as long lasting as I’d like but they are not drying so it’s a win/win!

One swipe each!

One swipe each!

This set is available at Macy’s for $40 or online at Macys.com (if you go into a Macy’s impulse store ask for the impulse section or they might say they don’t have it cause they just don’t know – I almost had a heart attack when she said “no”)

KAT VON D – Mi Vida Loca Remix Lipstick Set

wpid-wp-1442931774854.jpg

This little beauty arrived yesterday and I was uber hyped to get it in and swatch it for you guys. I am not an eye shadow person so I will not be picking up her matching eye shadow set but it looks very pretty too!!

This set includes 7 mini lipsticks and one full limited edition lipstick in an adorable white studded tube! I haven’t gotten many of her new studded lipsticks, the last Kat Von D lipstick I have was in the gold smooth tube and one of her liquid lipsticks in the fabulous color ‘outlaw’ so I was excited to be able to try 8 colors for $45!

OK enough of the hub-bub let’s get to the product:

All the beautiful colors

All the beautiful colors

Looking at the photo you can see how bright the colors look with a flash but how dim they are without and as I were hoping they’d be brighter, they are in fact quite dim yet still full of pigment, especially on my dark skin.

These are with two swipes per color

These are with two swipes per color

Each Color From Left To Right:

GOLD BLOODED – This has sparkles in it and feels gritty on the lips so AT FIRST I was thrown off by that because I don’t like glitter lipstick or the feeling of it on my lips. However this color proved to be worth that feeling. Now the gritty feeling never went away and blotting will show blotches but it’s such a vibrant red/orange with a hint of gold undertones that you can’t help but love it. It stayed on for about an hour as it’s the last one I swatched and it did very good with holding up the color.

wpid-wp-1442931916642.jpg

I have two lipsticks this color, one being Kat Von D’s but this one has a certain undertone to it that screams fire!!

NEXT UP:

HALO – folks I didn’t think an orange could be so effing fantastic but this one is all that and everything else included!! *I am actually wearing it at work today! This is really a nice opaque but light orange. It’s soft but bold and goes on smooth but be sure to have exfoliated lips or get this caught up in all of your creases! This is my favorite out of the bunch!

Check the gold undertone in this beauty and that POW, I'm sexy in my orange lipstick feel!

Check the gold undertone in this beauty and that POW, I’m sexy in my orange lipstick feel!

NEXT UP:

NaYEON – I have no idea what the name of this means but it is the same name as a popular Korean singer and LPGA player. This looks black but it’s really a dark silver with sparkles and that gritty feeling again (I am not a fan of this feeling) This is the one color I cannot wear to my M-F job but can and will rock at my Sunday job even so, this is my least favorite color.

It did take multiple swipes to achieve such a dark hue and even then the middle of my lips were splotchy a bit

It did take multiple swipes to achieve such a dark hue and even then the middle of my lips were splotchy a bit

NEXT UP:

COVEN – As a MN Vikings fan I love all things purple especially a good purple lipstick I can wear on game days. Coven is a light lavender and feels a bit stiff to apply. It’s very pigmented and I believe it will require a liner for almost anyone who wears it so it doesn’t wash them out. I’d most likely apply this only to one lip them blot/rub the rest onto the other lip. It’s far too opaque for my skin tone.

A darker purple liner would be perfecto

A darker purple liner would be perfecto

NEXT UP:

SEXER – Dare I say that I was expecting this pink to pop off of my lips like a fairy but it was kind of dark and subdued.  A more winter pink for sure but I wanted more pank! It is opaque enough and gives a full and rich color but not as bold yet that’s ok.

wpid-wp-1442888714791.jpg

NEXT UP:

WOLVESMOUTH – Kat Von D wins for best effing names of lipsticks EVER!! I thought this would be my favorite color right out the box but it looks like three other colors I have and falls to the bottom on that list. It’s no doubt a gorgeous color; full, rich, creamy, and all that goodness but it’s nothing special nor new. It’s not berry which is in for the season yet it’s a medium plum – again I have dark skin so on me it doesn’t stand out. This would be my 2nd least favorite.

It's a rich plum

It’s a rich plum

NEXT UP:

BACHELORETTE – This next to Wolvesmouth and Sexer is like their big sister. She’s such a cute and fun pink and when you view the pic above you can see how it’s kind of a darker pink than Sexer but on me it shows brighter than Sexer which was unexpected but very much appreciated!

It's what I thought Sexer would be

It’s what I thought Sexer would be

FINALLY:

NOBLE – It’s nude and nudes are not the easiest lipsticks to work with because certain levels of nude don’t look good on everyone. I need darker nudes and this one is very opaque; a bit too much for me. I will wear this this week and apply a liner and a darker nude gloss on top to see what I come out with!

wpid-wp-1442888714786.jpg

So there you have it folks! I am happy with this set even with the colors that I don’t fancy because I got to try 8 colors for a very reasonable and exciting price!

In order as shown on the box

In order as shown on the box

If I buy a full size I am thinking that Halo and Bachelorette would be coming home with me as those two colors are just too fabulous for words! I would love the full sized color more if it didn’t have that gritty feeling but out of the entire set only three doesn’t look good on me, NaYeon, Coven, and Noble so that’s a win for me!

Kudos

Have A Fabulous Day!!

$675 for WHAT??

As I am a lover of all things cosmetics, I love a good bargain and I may even splurge and get something a tad bit too expensive because I want to treat myself but while scanning through the online oz I mean, Sephora website I came across this:

Nail Polish

Nail Polish

The first thing that caught my eye was the price . . . $675.00 for a tiny studded jar of nail polish! Now folks hear me out . . . if you like luxury then by all means you go and buy you whatever your heart desires but if you chose to read further please don’t be offended by my words against items like so and your desire to buy them.

WHY I HATE THIS PRODUCT?

Have I tried it? No, it’s $675 for a nail polish, TF I look like!

Am I going to judge it without having tried it? DAMN SKIPPY

Let’s go over the basics. . .

How much does it cost to produce nail polish? We all know it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to create nail polish, hell you can make some in your kitchen. Having been in retail for over 15 years, If I had to guess (because there is no info online) I’d say that the cost price of nail polish – depending on brand – is anywhere from $0.50 to $5.00 per ounce. That’s just my guestimations, either way we know it’s not nearly as much as this bottle costs.

For more information and on how nail polish is made visit this website http://www.madehow.com/Volume-1/Nail-Polish.html

So the question is, is there ever a reason to justify buying a nail polish this expensive?

I’d say NO! I don’t care how rich a person is, buying this is just stupid and there is really no other answer for it in my book. There are NUMEROUS pairs of CL shoes that are cheaper than this polish so right there is your lack of justification. You are paying for a jar/tube/whatever that is bedazzled with 1,500 hand-applied, two-tone Strass crystals and is displayed in a black box decorated with leather and crystal flowers – that’s what you are paying for strass crystals (which without google I have no idea what those are) and a leather box with crystal flowers.

Nail polish chips. . . . that’s just life; OPI, Essie, Revlon, CL, Marc Jacobs, all that ish chips because it’s made to be temporary so why would you pay for a temporary item like this?

I have a hard time believing that people are so gullible that they would spend $1000 (because math taught us to round after 5) on a tiny bottle of nail polish!! On Sephora’s website, women were commenting on how disappointed they were that it chipped? OH NO SHIT SHERLOCK, it chipped, nail polish chipped how absolutely unreal is that!

kanye-blank-stare

I found myself getting upset with this product because it’s beyond ridiculous, I guess to some they can say they are buying a piece of art but you can buy a really great piece of art with that amount of money that can be showcased in your home or office.

Maybe because I am a paycheck to paycheck living single mother that I can’t understand the value in this product. . . .

flat,800x800,075,f_u3

NO. . .that’s not it at all. . . . .

warning_stupid_sticker-r6a7d1b9d18c942cc9cda830536965cf7_v9waf_8byvr_512

SO, what do you guys think? Am I being a bitch and judging because I don’t like this product – I can afford it and have money to spare with my paycheck to paycheck living arse, I just wouldn’t buy it and I would make my friends feel shitty if they ever bought it.

How far does obsession go? Is this obsession?

It is, after all JUST nail polish

MY Tools for Managing Finances and Helping to Change Spending Habits

TRUTH

TRUTH

Well folks, I started to become a MORE responsible adult ugh. . .

By that statement, I mean that I decided to finally get rid of all of my prepaid things like my phone and my bank account and get the adult versions. See, about 6 years ago when I was financially an idiot and fucking up bank accounts and running up phone bills like it was the thing to do (I ain’t proud but – you know – I was young & dumb), I decided that I was not going to do traditional banking when I couldn’t keep up with the fees and especially when my new job (still work there PT today) only did direct deposit; I had to find an alternative solution and the banking issue brought me to think about my phone issue and that I wasn’t going to do contract phone services anymore either because I hated all the fees attached those and BOOM the ‘Age Of Prepaid’dom’ kicked in!

It was a nice run, smooth services, no fees oh BUUUT as I am now correcting my credit or at least trying to, the realization that I have to start establishing good credit kicked again in so that meant getting rid of the prepaid banking and cellular services.

What’s prepaid banking?

It’s like those cards you see on TV; like the Walmart and Rush cards and others like them. It worked like this:

I get my check deposited into the banking account (there wasn’t a physical bank in this state – Me; MN (they; CA) and with my debit card I can have access to my funds and could use any ATM (of course with the fees) and pay a monthly maintenance fee of $9.95.

THE PROS:

No over-drafting, what you have in our account is what you have so no going over or bounced payments with excessive large fees or random fees of any kind just the monthly fee.

Paychecks deposited a day early. At both of my jobs, I got my paycheck a day before every one else, didn’t know why and wasn’t against it either.

That’s it, easy as a rhubarb pie in the summer time!

THE CONS:

NO reporting to credit bureaus

NO physical bank to go inside of when you have a question (although I must say, up until this year, customer service with them was always on point and fast!)

This is the card I used found at accountnow.com

This is the card I used found at accountnow.com

I loved the service of this card and I think anyone like me, who couldn’t be responsible with a traditional bank account should get one of these to help you curb your spending. You can get a savings card or add another card holder (my 13 yr old son is getting one) and money can be transferred from card to card easily or added at any Walmart, CVS, or Walgreens easily.

BUT since I have learned to manage my money better it’s time to move on to the more advanced banking. Now don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t completely  horrible with my money but I wasn’t great either. I needed to really SEE my money if you know what I mean. It took me having to keep track of every dollar to realize how much money I wasted doing bullshit and as I still do waste money (umm hello cosmetics!!) I do not waste as much as I used and I owe having this card to help me with that. I learned the luxury of having just one small fee (the $9.95) a month v/s the over drafts I had let happen, I learned to see every dollar and know where it went, and I learned to respect the banking process and that by doing so all shall be alright!

THEN, I also looked at my phone. . . .

I was using Virgin Mobile and have been using it off and on for about 10 years. I’d do a plan/contract phone, fuck it up, close it, open another one, fuck it up, close it. . . .and so on until they blocked my ass from doing that forcing me to prepaid and as I hated prepaid service at first (made me feel like I wasn’t cool enough like the good phone having people) I eventually loved having control over my usage.

Virgin Mobile offers prepaid cellular service internationally

Virgin Mobile offers prepaid cellular service internationally

Virgin was the first company to me, to come out with this prepaid service before the others caught on to the extent that they were offering (now all the big companies offer prepaid options for the credit-challenged folk like me with all the newest phones).

THE PROS:

You get to choose how much you want to spend a month and it can change every month. If you want unlimited everything; get unlimited everything, if you want 300 minutes and unlimited texting; get it and etc. You have the option to create the plans you want and that’s why I love it and my son still uses it. On those months when other bills were late or excessive and I didn’t have $55 for unlimited but had $25 for a plan, I knew I had options.

No EXTRA fees. You pay tax when you ‘top up’ (add money to your account for your service)

THE CONS:

The Phone! With prepaid cellular service you ALWAYS have to pay full price for the phone so that can be a drag and recently Virgin Mobile’s phone selection has gone downhill (another reason prompting me to leave them) but unless you have to have the newest phone all the time then this is not as bad as it sounds. Some phones range from $59 – $599 so you have options. Virgin runs off of Sprint so you will get the same service that someone on a sprint plan will get as far as connectivity which I’ve never had a problem with.

And now here I am:

imadult

Doing the right kind of adult stuff and making the right kind of adult decisions that I neglected to do in my 20’s cause I didn’t feel like growing up right away (0_0′). But I’m doing the responsible thing since I have grown up (in a sense – I’m a kid at heart til the day See.Are.Oh.Ay.Kay) with my adult banking account and contracted cellular service and ok credit with good standing credit card. . . .well whoopty do!! <slow claaaaap>

The difference now is that my mind is working properly, I see my finances before I spend them unlike in the past so I am able to better manage my spending (when I want to because Lawd knows I didn’t need to buy that Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca holiday lipstick set today <clears throat> but I did *thanks Stephie you horrible person you) and that difference matters greatly when you are looking at your outcome and seeing how much you spend on bullshit.

MY TOOLS

I created a budget spreadsheet on excel and everyday I go into work, I pull it up, open my accounts online and add what was spent the day before, if I spent anything.

This is my personal budget spreadsheet

This is my personal budget spreadsheet

I have my incomes in the first section, my bills and utilities in the next section, the extra expenses (items I buy, things I do but are not considered mandatory bills) then I have a total and under that is my credit card with it’s total added into the total amount above it. The red on the end is my yearly spending and the red in the 3rd section is “bad” spending in those categories. This helps me to physically see my money and know when I am fucking up my expenses.

I also have a mint.com account (which I LOVE)

mint

I love this site and everything it does to help you keep track of your money!

I have all of my accounts synced to this account:

manage-your-money

You account looks like this

I love that I can see my student loan DEBT, my income, credit card balances, 401K and what I need to save monthly to take my son on our vacation next year as well as see my credit score. It’s definitely a site I encourage ALL of you to try out even if you are good at managing your money!! It helps me to stay on top of my finances.

Shows your transactions made with all linked accounts

Shows your transactions made with all linked accounts

A chart is made to show you your spending

A chart is made to show you your spending

Some people, like my sister, do not like having an online profile of finances but I’m not afraid of hackers and all that jazz because I know my money is protected and will be reimbursed if fraud occurs which it has in the last 5 years a few times with quick resolutions. I have my phone synced as well so the moment I spend money my phone gets an alert (like a text message) that shows me what I just spent and sometimes it’s so quick that I am still wrapping up at the register.

You don’t have to be a bit obsessive like myself to have this kind of control over your finances but it doesn’t help to know where your money is going to and see your spending habits and good/bad trends. I look back over the months and go, “When the hell did I spend that on that?” like the $405.52 I spent in March on fast food and coffee (yea you read that right!?) I had family in town but still that was astonishing to see, or the $327.71 spent in February on weave when I’ve been bald a year <side eyeing myself> or the three $700+ ATM/Fees in Jan, Feb, and June. Like WTF was I doing with all of this money?! Granted I paid some bills with cash or did grocery and household shopping but just seeing it is mind-blowing so I have been proud of myself  that aside from June’s ATM cash runs, I’ve decreased my spending in all areas drastically because of these tools I use!

money management

It feels good to finally have a hold on my finances but the repairing of the credit is no joke!! I teach my son about money and I even let him see when I fuck up and spend when I shouldn’t have or I’ll tell him that I can’t afford something and when I can. He needs to know how money works for us other than just spending it.

Well folks, I’ve rambled on so I’ll end here and pick up another time. Let me know what kind of tools you use for budgeting or if you’ve used any of what I’ve posted.

My Everyday FACE Product!

We all – MEN and WOMEN – have those favorite products that we use every day and just can’t get enough of right. . . .so I wanted to introduce you to one of mine and feel free to introduce me to yours (fellas too, I have a teenage son who is all about skin care)

When I did a short stint (meaning I decided against that career and didn’t finish) in school for Esthetics, I learned a lot more about skin care which was AWESOMESAUCE and one of those items was C E FERULIC ACID. We all got a small bottle inside of our kits to try out and I lucked up and won a full sized bottle during a class with a rep for the product.

wpid-wp-1441736925978.jpeg

It’s a preventative product meant to be used in the morning to replenish the vitamin C we lose at night and during sleep.

Website defines it as:

C E Ferulic is a revolutionary antioxidant combination that delivers advanced environmental protection against photo-aging by neutralizing free radicals that can accelerate the appearance of aging.

  • Provides advanced environmental protection against damaging free radicals
  • Increases firmness and replenishes lipids to visibly reduce wrinkles
  • Once absorbed, this serum can’t be washed or rubbed off. It remains effective for a minimum of 72 hours, making it an excellent step in your skincare routine
  • For dry, normal, and sensitive skin

I don’t care for things that say anti-aging cause really – I will age and dammit I will age gracefully because the universe has willed my skin-life that way – but I wanted to give this a try at school and what it did to my skin (face) was noticeable and appreciated.

wpid-wp-1441736827447.jpeg

Oh you read that right hontee, it’s $162.00 for a 1 oz bottle. .  ..YOWZA so you see why I was lucky for winning a full-sized bottle eh!

The price is an obvious CON, I mean who in the hell has $200 bucks (math taught us to round up after 5) for a jar of liquid? I sure as hell don’t but for what it does, dare I say when I run out, I will purchase more.

WHAT HAS IT DONE FOR MY SKIN:

I was – by the grace of skin gawds – given great skin. Great as in not as nearly many problems as I could have with my skin. I’m a combination skin type with more dryness than anything. I don’t break out very often and when I do I almost always know why and can reverse it.

It cleared my skin and I don’t mean acne clear, I mean visibly cleared my skin. I see more of a glow when I use this product and I checked to be sure I wasn’t tripping and went without it then with it then without and I did see a visible difference which was great.

The one con other than the cost is the SMELL!! This smells like hotdogs, no lie – a consensus was taken in class and well, Hotdogs or hotdog water. Now some of the girls in class were all “ewww”, “gross”, “I’m not putting that on my face” but let me tell you after almost 8 months of use (still on one bottle) the smell literally fades in the 30 seconds you have to wait until you apply anything else on your skin and I mean completely gone. Yea ya fingers might smell but I assume you will wash your hands before applying another product anyway but that’s about it. Do not let the smell deter you from a great product and honestly, after using it for a while the smell no longer bothers me, I know it’s there and I know it will fade.

A few drops is really all you need and no more. This stiff spreads generously!!

My friend who I went to Sephora with in my last post picked up some because she keeps using Retin-A and it’s ruining her skin so I suggested she try this and she grabbed a bottle from Sephora in their Dr. Dennis Gross skincare line which was expensive but not as much as this bottle.

Let me know if you’ve tried it and what you think if you do!

Kudos

A Mini Trip To OZ, I Mean SEPHORA

The other day I went into Sephora to get another sample of Dior foundation because the last one did not match my skin and this new one was like PERFECTO!!! But this post isn’t about that, today.

I saw the rewards that Sephora had on display and decided to indulge in a few. For any of you not familiar with Sephora’s reward program – every dollar you spend is a point that you get and the more points you get the more rewards you can cash them in for. You start out as a Beauty Insider, then a VIB, and VIB Rouge. Each one has their own perks. Check it out and indulge.

I decided to pick up a Josie Maran item and Perricone MD item and then later I came back to the store with a friend who purchased me a BiTE lipstick <SAAWEEEET>

wpid-wp-1441735812559.jpeg

I’ve used Josie’s products but I wanted to try this light argan oil and because I have been wanting to try Perricone MD, I found it a great time to do so.

As with rewards they are trial/travel sizes which offers enough for you to try a product out for a week or maybe longer.

They fit in the palm of my very HD'd hand.

They fit in the palm of my very HD’d hand.

The PROS:

Perricone MD: I love cute little items, sometimes it’s better to me than the product. IN this situation, I like the jar better than the product but the product isn’t bad there is just better out there on the market. It’s listed to be able to: “Perricone MD Face Finishing Moisturizer helps minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while providing antioxidant protection. The powers of ALA, DMAE, and vitamin C ester combine to impart a nourished, hydrated, glowing complexion”

It's nestled into it's tiny little box.

It’s nestled into it’s tiny little box.

It’s not as it claims to me especially up against other moisturizers I have tried (like Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47) and after reading a few reviews I find the negative reviews to fit.

wpid-wp-1441736015723.jpeg

Yes this moisturizes but it’s honestly – to me – no better than a regular lotion. My Nivea feels better and soaks into the skin better than this. One review said it smelled like her grandmothers candles and I am not sure what those smell like but I like the smell. It kind of smells like soap and lotion; soation (ha I’m totally coining that phrase!) It’s not old candle smelling but I could say the smell is a bit aged from your usual smell of skin creams however I find it delightful although it does linger around longer than wanted. And for 2fl oz., you’re looking at $75 when the Josie Maran is $32 and adds such a glow to your skin.

The CON for me would be the effects this doesn’t have on my skin at the price it’s offered, I’d expect better.

Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil Light: It’s argan oil and we have all pretty much come to learn the good ol’ properties of using argan oil over the past few years so I don’t feel the need to tell you about it in depth.

wpid-wp-1441736075203.jpeg

Argan oil is great for skin and hair and I’ve had some with a really strong smell that’s kind of sweet and some like this one that has more of a castor oil smell – to me. I decided to do a little experiment with these two items because both of them can be used as face moisturizers. I’ll let the photo’s explain.

I rubbed for a few seconds the Perricone into my skin then let it sit for approx. 10 mins.

I rubbed for a few seconds the Perricone into my skin then let it sit for approx. 10 mins.

I did the same with the Josie Maran argan oil.

I did the same with the Josie Maran argan oil (one drop).

The photo’s may not show it as clear as I’d like (both with flash and unfiltered) but as you can see the Perricone MD on the left started out prominent with shine but ten minutes later, it’s a bit dull and it looks a lot more dull in person on my hand. The flash actually gives it more shine than it has. I’m not dry but there is no glow like there is on my right hand.

For the pic on the right you see that the argan oil after ten minutes remains as prominent and shiny as it did ten minutes earlier and it’s still quite shiny on my hand in person. The argan oil is rubbed into the skin but my skin stays with a shiny glow that I – with dry skin- love.

I tried both to see if I was going to go with the Josie Maran moisturizer or try something different and these have shone me that the Perricone – for my skin – doesn’t hold a candle to Josie Maran (her moisturizer really does give you a glow where you don’t even need foundation!)

If you have tried either of these products, let me know what you think?

NEXT UP . . .  LIPSTICK

I love my friends because they know how easy it is to shop for me. I met up with a friend and after checking out her new apartment, which is really sweet, we headed to the Mall of America to Sephora to pick up some goodies for us both. I initially wanted Anastasia Beverly Hills lip gloss but she is so anti-it due to reviews she read – although I own one lip gloss and liquid lipstick and love them both – I told her I’d get what she thought would look best on me. At first she said Kat Von D’s liquid lipstick in Baushaus, which by-the-way is an awesome color and will be my next purchase. BUT I introduced her to BiTE Beauty and wanted to grab one of the new berry colors but they were all out except for the darkest berry color that I did not want (BOOHOO) so I went for my favorite BiTE Beauty lipstick color.

wpid-wp-1441736226788.jpeg

I absolutely find this pink to be the best damn pank on the market. It’s so vibrant yet so creamy yet so long lasting to be so creamy and it glides on like smooth like my virgin Brazilian installed mane sliding ever so gently on my silk pillowcase.

There is one problem with Bite Beauty’s lipstick that bothers my cosmetic soul like a pigmented-lacked lipstick and that’s the melt factor of it. Because they are so creamy they melt a bit quicker than I would like. For example;

This photo shows up close how the lipstick looks after just being in my bag on the way home.

This photo shows up close how the lipstick looks after just being in my bag on the way home.

You see those “sweat” beads, I don’t fancy those and it’s irritating because I feel like the lipstick is already creamy. I did a bit of research and if you look up “sweaty lipstick” you’ll see a few pictures of Bite. Of course this really isn’t sweat and it will dry but I don’t like it. I will put my lipstick in the freezer or the fridge and keep it there until ready to use. It does no harm and when it’s dried it’s fine but it’s not nice to look at it.

The lipstick itself is fine and is a gorgeous color!!

A little update on some old favs!

Mo Merrell's Place

I love Makeup

It’s Obvious to anyone who know me and if you read my posts long enough you will see that too.

So the other day I went to SEPHORA planning to do some serious shopping and well $220 later, I went home with some goodies I purposely went looking for and some newbies that I THOUGHT could be some winners.

A Few Lip Products From ULTA

I do not go to ULTA as I am a SEPHORA girl but ULTA has a few lipsticks online/in-store that interests me like Japonesque or Calvin Klein and Makeup Revolution, however I didn’t pick up any of those on my recent trip because the way my finances is set up – I just couldn’t go deep pocketing yet but I did pick up a few non-expensive items that caught my attention.

I like finding online gems like Kiko Cosmetics (I’ll do a post on those beauties after I purchase more now that they ship to the US <insert happy face emoji>) BUT that’s still not what I picked up from ULTA – I don’t why I keep getting side tracked.

I picked up from in-store what I thought was NYX Intense Butter Gloss but actually was just soft butter gloss

I didn't like this because of the wand and because it was the wrong product.

I didn’t like this because of the wand and because it was the wrong product.

You know when you pick up the tester and then grab what’s behind it because you want it? Well I did that with the intense butter lip gloss but got this one and not only did I not like the wand, I didn’t like the product. There wasn’t a good pigmentation on me either and I got a color a tad lighter than this one.

And online I ordered two CATRICE lipsticks. I like looking at blogs from other countries to see what their make-up brands are that we don’t have then I try to acquire them and give em a go so I saw Catrice online and thought I’d pick up a few and try them out.

Catrice is a popular brand by a German company called cosnova BEAUTY. Cosnova also makes essence cosmetics which will be included in this review and was launched in 2001 in Germany. ULTA debuted Catrice products on their website earlier this month and I thought I’d try it out.

I ordered from ULTA.com CATRICE Luminous Lips Lipstick in colors My Pink – Instinct 110 and Let’s Go Brown  – Town 020 as pictured above. Online they look very pigmented but in person they are not. I deleted the pics that I took of the swatches for some unknown reason so the only photo I have is this one (BOO HOO) I really wanted you to see the swatches.

PROS:

Price – Although these were the same formula to me, they were different prices. The pink was $3.99 and the other was $5.99

Design – The tube is sleek and silver which I liked very much. I also liked the name imprinted on the lipstick, I love when companies do that, it’s just a really  nice look.

CONS:

Pigment – I was VERY upset that these were not as I hoped. They were very sheer like a sheer Nars lipstick or a lip gloss. I would say that on lighter skin tones, the pink would have been dark enough to suffice but the brown was a very sheer and light tan.

The pink also broke after I put it on which really pissed me off. There is nothing more upsetting than a broken tube of lipstick, especially when it’s brand new.

Formula – It was very light weight like a lip gloss in a lipstick tube and it melted very easily. Putting it on my lips was like rubbing butter on my lips; I could feel the melting of the lipstick and I didn’t like that feeling because it wasn’t super soft more so kind of oily.

Price – There was no need to have one be a different price when they both were really the same formula. That ticked me off and the $5 shipping.

So with those three products I went back to ULTA and exchanged them. I went to an ULTA store here in Roseville, MN and I was not too happy with the customer service. Twice I was asked if I had a beauty card or whatever and I had said No twice; once over the phone when I called to speak to the manager about exchanging without a receipt (for the nyx) and then in the store. She let me exchange them all but had never heard of Catrice so I gave her info on the line (I think employees should know what’s sold online and in stores, DUH). I wanted to exchange for Makeup Revolution, a cheaper brand like catrice that I saw online and was interested in giving a go to but they only sold that online <insert rolling eyes>

The Two NYX Items I picked up

The Two NYX Items I picked up

I finally got the right NYX Intense Butter Gloss and then saw the high voltage lipstick and loved the swatch so gave that a go too.

PROS:

Price – We all know about NYX , I’m sure, and it’s a great product for the price. I dislike their round lipsticks but most items of theirs I love. Both were $5.99.wpid-wp-1441074967977.jpeg

Formula – The intense butter gloss is thick and creamy, the lipstick is creamy as well but both have a really awesome SOFT feel on the lips, like putting on Fresh’s Sugar balm. I really like that feeling because although they are both kind of heavy in formula the buttery softness trumps that immediately.

Such a vibrant pink

I love that this is a smokey dark red

Staying Power – I am wearing the intense butter gloss today and I actually just reapplied for the first time today about 4 hours into my 8 hour shift at work. I wore a liner which really helped because it had faded significantly but with just a little bit left on the lips to give a hint of the color but had I not wore the liner, it would not have looked so pretty. The wear on these are like you above average lip glosses.

I am love with both of these NYX products and can see myself purchasing more of the high voltage lipstick because I adored their color selections as the intense butter glosses color selection was kind of what I already have and I am trying to get out of buying the same colors in different products unless they are just that fabulous!

This just one swipe of each

The essence line they carry reminds me Milani or Black Radiance in price and selection. Such a cute product.

I love the ‘e’ detail

PROS:

Price – This lil cutie was $2.99

Design – It’s a very sleek tube of lipstick and I can’t stress how much the tube matters. Some of these companies do not understand that cute and bulky does not equate to easily stored.

Formula – For a $3 lipstick you know what you are getting. I have some $1 lipsticks that pack a punch on the pigment front so it’s no big surprise really. This had a nice semi-rich formula, definitely much better than their sister product CATRICE.

Pigment – Again, for the price you’re not expecting Kat Von D pigment. This has a nice subtle pigment that’s rich enough for a nice light look.

My camera on my phone sucks but what can I expect with a Samsung galaxy 3. I'll upgrade one day

The color is very much like the NYX except it’s not as rich and thick where I need a liner. They remind me very much of Kiko Cosmetics Smart Lipstick just more pigmented.

*Currently I have no cons with this product

This after 4 swipes

I really like these products versus the ones I had so I am satisfied. Once I purchase the lipsticks I want from ULTA, I won’t go there much often. I can’t pass up points at Sephora if they have what I want from Sephora.

Okie Doke folks I am at work and should probably do some work.

Kudos
